Hindsight for 2020

Is your Hindsight 2020?

Published on December 31, 2020

They say hindsight is 2020. It most certainly is.

I hear a lot of people say that they can’t wait until 2020 is over...to that I say this;

Let’s never forget 2020 as the year that redefined our humanity, the year we became more human, the year that defined us. The year that many of us suffered in ways we could never imagine, lost loved ones and endured the affliction of uncertainty. The year we changed our perspectives on the virtues of faith, hope and charity.

Let’s remember 2020 as the year that we deepened our faith as we worshipped online and in an instant had time to reflect on what’s important. The year we made the decision to keep our children home to attend school remotely and spend the much needed extra time with them to teach them about the importance and healing power of gratitude, especially in the face of challenge.

Let’s remember the year 2020 as the year healthcare workers became miracle workers, caring for the sick and dying, going above and beyond what any of us thought was possible. Likewise what our educators and administrators dared to do for our children while frontline workers in grocery stores and restaurants did what they could to ensure our survival.

Let’s remember 2020 as the year our country was divided but our world was united, realizing that we are one and that we are better together even with little or no human touch. The year we all added “Zoom” to our vocabulary, became proficient in working remotely and learned to smile with our eyes.

In a moment of silence, together let’s remember all of those who lost their jobs, their livelihoods, lives or the lives of loved ones in 2020. Let’s remember those who lost everything including hope.

In life there will be suffering. In suffering there is purpose. In suffering and purpose there must be gratitude and humility. In gratitude and humility there is always hope.

May your hindsight be 2020. Peace be with you.
